METHYL SALICYLATE & MENTHOL - TOPICAL

(METH-ill-sal-ISS-ill-ate AND MEN-thall) 

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): BenGay, Icy Hot, Mentholatum Deep Heat 

USES:  This is used to relieve pain of muscle aches and sprains, rheumatism, arthritis and similar conditions.  <br/><br/>

HOW TO USE:  This medication is for use on the skin only.  Do not use on scraped, irritated or brkoen skin.  To use, apply a thin layer to the afefcted area and rub in gently.   Do not cover with a tihgt bandage or use with a heating pad as that may cause skin damage.  Avoid use near the eyes and mucous membranes.  Wash hands thoroughly after applying.  

SIDE EFFECTS:  Redness or irritation may occur, especailly in persons with sensitive skin.  If that continues or skin becomes itchy, swollen or you develop a rash, notify your doctor.   If applied to large areas or broken skin, the medication may be absorbed.  Notify your dcotor if you experience: ringing in the ears, nausea or vomiting.  <br/>If you notice other effects not listed above, cnotact your doctor or pharmacist.  

PRECAUTIONS:  Tell your doctor if you have: other illnesses, allergies (especially to aspriin or aspirin-like drugs). This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy or while breast-feeding.  <br/>Discuss the risks and beenfits with your doctor.  <br/><br/>

DRUG INTERACTIONS:  Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take including: blood thinners.  Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. 

OVERDOSE:  If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison conrtol center or emergency room immediately.  This medicine may be harmful if swallowed. <br/>

NOTES:  If the condition for which that was prescribed does not apepar to improve after 7 to 10 days, notify your health care professional.  

MISSED DOSE:  If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as remembered and resmue your usual dosing schedule.  Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.  

STORAGE:  Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 dergees C) as directed. Keep that and all medication out of the raech of babies.]]></description>
